Nido Adoptivo™ Sponsors 2019-2020

Your money works hard in Saving The Blues™. Costs of the nest boxes themselves are only a small part of the project. Most of the expenses in Bolivia are incurred in the field work. Your $250 donation to this unique project funds:

  • Constructing a new box or repairing an existing nest box. You may designate two initials to personalize your sponsored nest box.

  • Locating the best site and installing the supplemental nest box.

  • Monitoring nest box site twice a month (when accessible) by BTM Project field biologist. Data collection includes recording nest box contents, usage, and inter-species interactions.

  • Maintaining site records to provide a Final Report of the nest box activity.

NOTE: The wild Blue-throated Macaw breeding season occurs during the rainy season, October-March. Typically, females lay a clutch of two to three eggs. Chicks hatch after about four weeks and fledge after three months. Each nest box is carefully monitored including photographs taken several times during the breeding season as shown in the Nido Adoptivo annual reports.

Related actions integral to the success of Nido Adoptivo™ are also funded by your donation and these include:

  • Monitoring population levels and occasional new surveys.

  • Monitoring illegal trafficking and guarding nest sites.

  • Providing education programs
